Canalith Repositioning

Millions of people battle dizziness and vertigo, yet tolerate the condition as part of “getting old” or “getting out of bed too fast.” Becoming excessively dizzy after simple movements of the head is not normal. In fact, you might have a medical condition that should be diagnosed. Once you have that diagnosis, a relatively recent new set of movements known as Canalith Repositioning could give you immense relief.

Canalith Repositioning Proven Effective

A recent study examining 40 years of research on treatment of patients that suffer from dizziness and vertigo has verified the effectiveness of Canalith Repositioning. The steps that comprise this treatment can be located in a few variations on the Internet. The principle of the movements is moving your head in a way that the crystals in your ear canal (canalith) move into a place where they can be dissolved or eliminated.

So far, the results gained from Canalith Repositioning have been quite encouraging. About 80-90% of people who struggle with dizziness have found some measure of relief through the Canalith Repositioning movements. Often, the first time to do the Canalith Repositioning movements is with a medical professional after a good diagnosis of your condition. Once you know that “ear rocks” are causing your dizziness, you know that you need to get them to a different place in your ear canal. That’s where Canalith Repositioning comes in.

Once you do the movements with a doctor or other therapist, you can usually do them at home for continual treatment of your condition, either as a preventive measure or when symptoms arise again. Many people do the movements once or twice each night before going to bed for peace of mind.

Here’s what the actual movements in the Canalith Repositioning procedure are:

Canalith Repositioning Movements

1. Lay on a fairly rigid, flat surface in a way that you can tilt your head back over the edge at an angle. With your eyes open continually, hold this position for 30 seconds.

2. Turn your head slowly towards the ear that is causing the problem. Your head should still be titling downward at an angle after this turn. You can turn your entire body to this side, too. With eyes open, hold for 30 seconds.

3. Turn your head to the other, unaffected side. Your whole body can be turned to this side as well. Keep your head tilted downward and hold for 30 seconds with eyes open.

4. Sit up and hold your head in a downward position, towards your neck. Hold for 30 seconds with eyes open.

5. Repeat 1-2 times if necessary.

These Canalith Repositioning movements are often effective at repositioning the crystals in your ear canal that are causing you problems with your balance and dizziness. If you do not experience relief after repeated movements, see a medical professional. You might have another more serious condition that requires other, more sophisticated treatment.
